TGIF?

Hello friends,

It's funny, Friday used to be my favorite day (okay, maybe it was Saturday...) when I worked in an office from 8:30-5:30 everyday. Now that I am full time artist/shopkeeper all my days are filled with fun and adventure, and sometimes I even forget what day it is. Let's face it, for me Friday is not quite as special as it used to be. That said, it will always hold a special place in my heart --- and I know it still holds a special place in the hearts of most of the rest of the world, so I will continue to celebrate. Happy Friday.

In honor of Friday I wanted to share with you some of what's inspiring me right now.

  1. My sister. Did you see her interview on Victoria's blog? Stephanie inspires me to no end (amazing photographer, craftsperson, mother, human being) and so does Victoria (incredible designer, one of the kindest people I have ever met), so it was a treat to see the collaboration.
  2. The work of Andrew Sliwinski. If you take a look at his website you will see that this man has many talents not the least of which is typography. 1386809497_large_2
  3. Not having a 9-5 schedule. Grocery shopping at 11 on a Friday morning. Working in my studio for 7 hours on a Tuesday. Staying up late, sleeping till 9. Painting the gallery walls at Rare Device. Having time to read again.
  4. Ffffound. I have been hooked on this picture-only blog of unending visual stimulus for about 6 months now and I have yet to lose interest. Pure magic.

I leave you with that.
Cheers.

I used to feel the same way! When in college, I worked part time in an office then weekends were spent working third shift in a hotel, so my schedule was friday afternoon work, then a nap, then work overnight, sleep most of saturday + do homework + work, then spend sunday trying to get back to a "normal" daytime schedule.

It was years before I could get to a Friday afternoon and have a light heart and be thrilled it was the weekend!

Love the interview with your sister and the typography of the artist. Beautiful work!

Am envious of your flexible schedule too!

Fridays are the best! Your sister inspires me too. I loved that piece on Vitoria's blog. I also get a ton of inspiration from your amazing works. You guys must have the most creative family tree.

For me it's like for you. Friday is not the end of the working-week and I like what you say at point Nr.3. You're right, it's like this. Work is not finished Friday evening,I often work at night or on the weekend.
We stay up late too ( though having little children), that's one the most luxury things about being your own boss :)
The interview with your sister is a pleasure to read.

I'm new to being my own boss too. And, I love being able to set my schedule as I see fit. I do find that I'm working all the time though and I have to force myself to take at least one day a week off to disconnect from my business.

I get lost in that site as well. The internets are a vast and pretty place.

Ah, I know the feeling well-I retired and somehow one day now blends into the other. It's very easy to get lost in time, and the net. Naughty one Lisa with Ffffound - those sights are little rocks of net-crack for me.

Since it's only been six months of retirement, I'm cutting myself slack.
