ah, jewelry
Hello friends,
I often think in my next life I will make jewelry. I love handcrafted, unique stuff so much. I rarely leave the house without an array of chunky bangles and rings and necklaces adorning my frame (though I only wear tiny earrings). So it was my great delight while I was in Portland last week to visit for the second time the Museum of Contemporary Craft, who is currently having a wonderful jewelry exhibit. I visited this museum once before when it was in its previous location and was equally enamored with this exhibit showing at the time. Their curators are really so good--the renowned Ellen Lupton did this exhibit.
Anyhow, I took some photos of the wonderful work behind glass and was so inspired. Here are some examples of my favorite pieces (click on the images to see larger versions that capture more detail):
Once again I was scolded for taking photos (this time I did really look for signs forbidding me to shoot, but didn't see any). Fortunately, that didn't happen until I was able to take these shots. I did buy a 2007 copy of Metalsmith Magazine for Rena as a gift, which has much better photos of the pieces in the exhibit. I also walked away with this book which has provided me with hours of viewing pleasure already.
Other recommendations:
Working my way through this trilogy and this PBS series. Loving them both.
New $6 gocco coming to the shop tomorrow. Stay tuned.
Cheer-io.

Was the exhibit the Touching Warms the Art show?
I have the rings book, too. A good book for a range of inspiration.
Thanks for taking and sharing these great photos.

This is a great post, thanks for sharing. It's been years since we've been to the museum, though I consider it one of my faves. There's always something interesting and inspiring on display. Cheers,
Jason

great stuff. i think you might like the work of my two friends Jo Pond and Louise Evans both of whom use vintage materials with a lot of concept going into their work.
