SUH-WEET!
Hello friends,
I am one of those annoying people who says this (suh-weet!) when I am excited about something and that is exactly what I said (to myself) when I saw Derek and Lauren's weekly DIY post today. I've been using the inside of security envelopes as part of my collage work for some time, but never would've THUNK to turn them inside out and re-use them as envelopes. Brilliant those two are. Love it. Here's the picture:
Also, if you like Miranda July like I do (or have a crush on her like I do), you might like this video that my Lorena* sent me. And I have recently read this book cover to cover and then back through again.
We carry it at Rare Device, but I think we are currently sold out.
And while we are on the topic of reading, did you know I gave up cable TV, which in San Francisco means giving up everything except fuzzy reception of local stations? I did this because I loved it. I loved watching TV, but it was getting in the way of me being clear-headed and present. And so I gave it up. And now I am reading more and listening to music more. Right now I am finishing up this amazing book. And before I finish the trilogy, I am going to read this book, which has been highly recommended to me by my studio mate, and has something to do with the show I am having with Lisa in July. More on that later.
Cheer-io
*I know Lorena is not all mine, but I like to think she's partly mine.

Whoa! I am reading the 2nd book in Pullman's series right now. I work in a bookstore in Seattle and Color by Victoria Finlay is a mainstay on my favorites shelf. Some of the best writing about art and color and travel ever. I just did a post about a couple of books you might like too. ps. i don't have cable, but am still kinda addicted to pbs and crap tv. oh well. i spend most of the time in a bookstore, so it kinda evens out. :)

Love that video...totally made my morning.
Congrats on your ability to give up tv too. I love it too much also. I have another friend who recently gave it up. I really wish I could:) Not quite brave enough. Maybe soon.

tv sucks the intelligence out of our brains!

what a coincidence..we just finished the Subtle Knife last night. I think alot of the religious themes are lost on Ben (he does not even know who EVe is) but i am digging it way more than I thought. Makes me want to netflix the first movie.
and those envelopes scream! I can't help but think what good fabric they would make......
good decision on killing the cable, Tv really is the glass tit.
We saw the Weeping Camel awhile back (about mongolian sheepherders) and the mesmerizing influence of TV was a huge standout.
But I gotta say, i am totally addicted to the office right now, not sure what I will do once i gotten caught up on the completed seasons....I guess wait until it comes out on DVD as a full season and netflix it. TV can be an antidote to reality taken in small doses, better than zoloft in my book.

Hey Lisa, That's funny I just gave up TV also. I think it was "Millionaire Matchmaker" that finally pushed me over the edge- it's like a car crash you can't look away from. We cancelled our cable first and then found that we don't get any channels... but it's actually okay. A dog is often more entertaining than TV anyway.
(Well not always- but often :)

I love Pullman & Miranda July, & use those security envelopes, too. This is getting spooky!
And YOUR art is fantastic.

ah, the button factory! i was so thrilled that she made that little bit of goodness right down the street; miranda july is one of life's great pleasures.
and the pullman. loved the first two and started reading the third but don't want to finish -- i think i'm too tender-hearted for it to end, or to read the things that i suspect will come up. pullman is brilliant. (he also reads the trilogy for the audio version and is wonderful -- it's good road-trip stuff)
